Thai Basil Chicken

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs ground chicken (or finely chopped chicken breast/thigh)
  • 2 cups Thai basil leaves
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2–3 Thai chilies, chopped
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1/2 onion, sliced (optional)
  • Cooked jasmine rice for serving
  • Fried egg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare all ingredients and wash Thai basil leaves (5 minutes).
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until hot (2–3 minutes).
  3. Add garlic and chilies, stir-frying until fragrant and golden (1–2 minutes).
  4. Add ground chicken and cook while breaking it apart until fully browned (8–10 minutes).
  5. Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and water, mixing well to coat the chicken (3 minutes).
  6. Add sliced onions if using and cook until slightly softened (2–3 minutes).
  7. Turn off heat and immediately toss in Thai basil leaves until just wilted and aromatic (1–2 minutes).
  8. Serve hot over jasmine rice and top with a fried egg if desired (2 minutes).
